Different perspectives on racism and discrimination<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the lens of contemporary art and informed by scientific data, the exhibition <em>Aux origines<\/em> examines one of the most powerful and persistent factors of discrimination in our society. \u2018Origin\u2019 &#8211; whether real or imagined &#8211; is a cause of exclusion and stigmatisation in everyday life. It is a reality that often goes unacknowledged, yet shapes both collective and individual life paths from childhood onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This exhibition, funded by the European Union, is the result of close collaboration between the UNDETERRED Consortium, comprising 10 European and Canadian partners (Scientific Coordinator: Fabien Sabatier, assisted by Hachem Benissa), and the National Museum of the History of Immigration (Director General: Constance Rivi\u00e8re). It brings together the work of numerous artists and junior and senior researchers from the project\u2019s scientific team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-exhibition\">The exhibition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.histoire-immigration.fr\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/paragraphe_portrait_mobile\/public\/2026-05\/affiche_aux-origines.jpg?itok=8NrS-iiy\" alt=\"affiche_aux-origines\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">LegendePhoto&nbsp;: La boxe f\u00e9minine, s\u00e9rie, 2000. People of foreign origin and\/or those perceived as such bear the brunt of it on a massive scale. This \u2018origin\u2019 \u2013 whether real, assumed or imagined \u2013 is the source of persistent stereotypes, which often shape people\u2019s life trajectories from childhood onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the subversive gaze of contemporary artists \u2013 including the Chevalme sisters, Patrick Zachmann, Euridice Zaituna Kala and Hamedine Kane \u2013 and previously unpublished data, the exhibition <em>Aux origines<\/em> invites us to trace these mechanisms of stigmatisation and exclusion back to their source, by examining how perceptions are formed and perpetuated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing on recent social science research, and in particular the European project <a href=\"https:\/\/undeterred.hypotheses.org\/\"><em>UNDETERRED<\/em><\/a><em>* \u2013 UNintentional Discrimination dETEcted and Racism REveal and Deactivate<\/em> \u2013 the exhibition highlights the structural, and sometimes unconscious, nature of discrimination. Without overlooking its concrete effects in everyday life, particularly among the youngest members of society.
