The panel Challenges and Perspectives in Migration and Mobility presented a collection of research papers that explores migration and mobility through a variety of analytical frameworks and study cases. The first study had a methodological focus and it critically examines the processes by which trust is established—and occasionally undermined—in field research, challenging the rigidity of migrant categorizations. The second paper investigated the inadvertent discrimination faced by academic (student) migrants in Romania, shedding light on issues related to identity and inclusivity. The third contribution provided a comparative analysis of discrimination across different cities, highlighting the persistence of systemic biases across diverse contexts.
Finally, research on healthcare access addressed how precarious employment conditions exacerbate barriers to essential services. These studies were drawing on qualitative data collected in Bucharest and quantitative data collected across cities such as Bucharest, Barcelona, Bordeaux and Lausanne, cities tied together in a research network that investigates how systemic discrimination plays out across various sectors in unintended and
intended ways in societies that are growing increasingly complex and diverse. Collectively, these studies illuminated the interconnected nature of the challenges migrants face and advocate for comprehensive reforms aimed at fostering migrant inclusion and promoting equity.
